Lewell and Lora Molen
“One of my baby pictures is of Bill Monroe holding me when I was six months old!” says Lora, “I was born into a family of bluegrass musicians, and blessed to become one myself, when as a family, we performed at bluegrass festivals and shows across the country.”
“My dad had his own bands, and also played with several other
bluegrass artists, including the legendary Red Allen. Dad later formed a bluegrass gospel band along with my mom called Jim Dutton and The New Gospel Ship of which I was also member.”
“Lewell and I were “sweethearts” when we were around 7 years old. His Brother-in-Law (Lawrence Lane) and my dad formed the original Kentucky Grass around 1970. Lawrence’s wife, is Lewell’s sister, Mary and they and my parents were best friends.”
“Lewell and I have two grown children, both married, and we are expecting our first grandchild in a few weeks! “
“We absolutely love hosting Cumberland Sunday Morning and look forward to having the opportunity to visit with so many of our listeners at Heatwave16!” says Lewell Molen.
In addition Lewell adds “I was heavily influenced by my brother in law, Lawrence Lane. He was known as ‘The King of the Flat Top Guitar’ in the bluegrass world…
At seventeen, I joined his band and played with them until I left for Nashville and Country Music. Where I enjoyed playing lead guitar for Lorrie Morgan, traveling this country of ours, playing the Opry several times and even performing on The David Letterman Show, What a gas!”
Lewell continues, “My son, Josh and I now own and operate MoJo Music and Production Studio. We recently completed Miss Emi Sunshine’s latest project and two of Marty Raybon’s recent bluegrass CDs.”
As well, Josh Molen composes music for television for channels such as The History Channel, Biography Channel, Oxygen Network etc.
Lora also added, “Our daughter (and Josh’s sister) Molly is an amazingly successful and talented photographer.”
Lewell closes saying “I look forward to joining my wife every Sunday morning as we co-host Cumberland /Sunday Morning and I also look forward to having a great time together at Heatwave16!”
